About These Events

Over the last 20 years or so, the ARA-Moe’s Better Half Marathon has evolved into one of the more popular road races in central Texas. Named after San Marcos running guru and race director Dr. Moe Johnson, the ARA-MBHM is known for its challenging and scenic course and often colorful race management.

The Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K is a statewide event that travels to over 15 cities throughout the year in order to raise awareness and funds for the fight against child abuse. We have added a 1K Kids Fun Run this year, and we are partnering again with friends from the ARA-Moe’s Better Half Marathon - a legendary local tradition.

The Races
Half Marathon, 5K Fun Run and 1K Kids Fun Run. The Half Marathon will start promptly at
7:00 a.m.
; the 5K Fun Run will start at approximately 7:15 a.m. and the Kids 1K Fun Run will start at approximately 7:30 a.m.

The Course
The half marathon is run on a fairly challenging, certified course on country roads southeast of the Tanger Outlet Center. It is an out-and-back course that includes a loop of approximately 9 miles. The course is fairly flat between miles 4 and 5.5, and again between miles 7 and 8.5; the rest is moderately-rolling hills, with one rather nasty one at mile 3.5.

The 5K Fun Run (not certified) is an out-and-back course with gently rolling hills over the last part of the half-marathon course.

THE COURSE WILL CLOSE AT 10:30 A.M.

About CASA of Central Texas
(www.casacentex.org)
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers. Advocating for children in this area for 23 years, CASA acts as the eyes and ears of the Child Protection Court Judge and we “SPEAK UP” on behalf of the children’s best interests. Each year, CASA serves more than 200 children who have been placed in the care of the State due to abuse or neglect. But there are an estimated 450 or more ADDITIONAL children who did not have the voice of a CASA. The funds raised from these events will help us provide more advocates for more children. We believe that every child has a right to a safe, nurturing, permanent home.
