This
route is the basic course for the weekly SMRC Club Run. It is basically a flat
run that features views of many beautiful older homes, especially on Belvin Street
as it passes through the historical district of San Marcos. The distance is 3.066
miles, very close to a 5K. Additional increments of one mile (1.04, actually)
may be added by repeating the loop between Scott Street and Johnson Street (shown
below in red).
This course is fairly well lit by street lights and can be run easily at night. Be
careful of the traffic when crossing Hopkins Street around the halfway
point as you turn to head back toward downtown. It is advisable to start the
run downtown at the Court House (“CH” on the map) where there is
usually plenty of parking available.
