The
walking/running track that encircles the Central Texas Medical Center has got
to be one of the best-kept secrets in San Marcos. The track is completely paved,
and is wide enough (except for the sidewalk portion of it along Wonder World
Drive) for two people to walk or run side by side. The track is mostly flat,
but does include some uphill and downhill stretches in the sections behind the
hospital.
It is very well lit, and there is usually a lot of activity around the hospital
at all hours - people coming and going - so that most females feel very safe
walking or running there during hours of darkness. The track also features a
very nice view of town, especially at night. There is plenty of space to park;
most people who come to use the track park in the area around the Wellness Center.
The track was measured at 0.988 miles.
