Great turnout for San Marcos runners in the Capitol 10,000

If you ran the ARA - Moe’s Better Half Marathon, you can now go to the San Marcos Runners Club web site and click on the race tab, and you will find photos of some of the runners from the 2009. There are more than 40 photos, so you will have to scroll through them to see if you were one of the runners “caught” by the camera.

Last Sunday the Capitol 10,000 was run in Austin, and San Marcos was well represented at the race. The race had about 17,000 entrants, of which 13,000 were official entrants; and race results mentioned that there were 6,649 finishers as far as a timed finish is concerned.

Those runners from San Marcos included the following: Phillip Adams, 42:01; David Alexander, 1:08:32; Patricia Anderson, 1:03:09; Mary Bell, 59:07; Mark Brendalen, 46:53; Angie Burke, 51:47; Jessica Cassity, 1:07:56; Silvia Clark, 57:10; Krystal Collier, 1:28:14 and Margaret Collins, 46:54.

Also running was Karen Cruickshanks, 54:20; Andrew Cruz, 1:12:11; Kevin Cruz, 2:16:16; Corey de Leon, 43:03; Joshua Dunn, 48:35; Katie Edwards, 55:31 and Alexia Garcia, 1:03:49.

Some more runners included James Garrett, 1:49:19; Victoria Garrett (age 12), 1:20:21; Jose Garza, 46:54; Alex Gonzales, 1:57:22; Brittin Gough, 1:07:03; Amanda Hamilton, 1:02:26; Kayla Harabis, 1:18:59; Michelle Hentz, 55:44 and Paul Hernandez, 1:00:07.

San Marcos runners also included Jesse Ibarra, 1:49:20; Elisa Garrett, 1:20:22; Elissa Jackson, 1:32:56; Deidre Jepson, 54:43; Ted Juarez Jr., 1:14:44; Joe Kenworthy, 1:03:39; two-year-old Miller Kenworthy, 1:03:39; Haley Koop, 57:20; Richard Laue, 56:43 and Drew Lewis, 52:56.

Running the fastest time of the local runners was Tia Martinez in 40:11, for a second-place finish in the female 20-24 age group.

Laura Mason ran in at 1:10:02; Isabel Mata, 1:09:56; Rachel McGrath, 51:53; Joe Medina, 59:21; Lisa Medina, 59:23; Teresa Medina, 1:06:25; Elma Minor, 1:06:56; Melissa Molina, 1:35:39 and Summer Murray, 59:25. Others include Jennifer Nelson, 1:45:35; Emily Nunez, 59:13; Michal Perez, 47:09; Michael Prado, 1:03:11; Pamela Rindahl, 1:19:53; Eva Sanders, 1:05:17 and Martin Saldana, 1:09:00.

That was an outstanding turnout for the race, and it is good to see that many runners competing from San Marcos. There may have been a few more that ran but did not have their time recorded.

An interesting side note is that over in Afghanistan, Captain Phillip Johnston, the organizer of the ARA - Moe’s Better Half Marathon over there, also organized runners for the Capitol 10,000. He had 185 runners take part in the race over there.

That was a great turnout of runners from the military who are stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan. He did mention that the runners that ran the half marathon liked the shirts we sent over better, since they were high-tech shirts versus the cotton shirts they get from most of the other races. That made it worthwhile to spend a little extra on a race shirt to get mentioned as a favorite shirt.

Now that the “official” race season is under way, do not forget the many races that are coming up in the next few weeks. Keep in mind that on April 25th there are about four races that same day in the area, so you really have a good choice to choose something to run.

April 18th is the Chapa 5K in Kyle; and on April 19th is the Dragon 5K in Wimberley; so those two can be a good warm up for the next weekend.
